Processing of brake disks
![]() | The automotive brake system being in good order is a pledge of your road safety. When applying a brake of vehicle, brake disks become wearable. Their working surface demonstrates longitudinal ribbed grooves. Besides, thermal overstressing often causes a warp of disk. All the above factors reduce the efficient braking operation, accelerate brake shoe wear and lead to occurrence of vibrations. Alongside with vibrations the brake system malfunction can also be expressed by drifting the car while applying a brake. Too hard or to too spongy brake pedal is an evidence of defective brake-system hydraulic drive. The brake-system wear can be avoided by processing the brake disks. This procedure is performed using special equipment without removing disks from the vehicle. After processing a brake disk its working surfaces become absolutely flat and parallel. The contact area of brake shoes and disc also increases; therefore, car braking vibrations and noise disappear in full. The reasons to make processing of brake disks: 1. If you are pedaling the brake and feel hereby an annoying vibration of steering wheel or brake pedal of the moving vehicle, it is one of the signs that brake disks of your vehicle require processing. 2. If you become aware that the efficiency of your vehicle is significantly dropped it is also one of the factors to initiate processing of disks. This operation can be made not even dismounting the disks from the vehicle!! To prevent this step of dismounting an up-to-date portable machine tool for brake processing is applied to. The latter is directly attached to the wheel-bearing housing or steering knuckle instead of the brake caliper. Such approach, in addition to high accuracy (whipping of processed disk surfaces does not exceed 5 micron – it is five or even ten times higher than a new disk has!), takes into account the actual position of the brake caliper and assures after repair procedure a strict perpendicularity between the disk surface and brake cylinder axle. The perpendicular position is enabled due to special brackets that connect a tool gear (block) with the brake caliper attaching point. The machine tool configuration also comprises multipurpose brackets and adjusting plates, however special faceplates meant for a certain vehicle model are also available to order. The machine tool cuts down the time required for disk repair. The processing operation takes only between 5 and 7 minutes and the same period of time is necessary to dismount and mount a wheel, brake caliper and machine tool. All together, with reference to overlapped operations – as much as 30-40 minutes are needed to repair all vehicle disks! |
