Every season change makes car owners re-tyre their vehicles according to a season. And the question is repeatedly raised again: where and how the unused set of tires can be stored. Keeping the tires in an improper way can result not only in losing their appearance but also in impairing their performance characteristics. When stored incorrectly, the rubber might lose its plastic property. The rubber composition includes substances protecting the tires in the course of automobile motion from ageing caused by solar beams, ozone and change of temperature. The tires in custody should be especially thoroughly protected against severe environment. The longer tires are stored, the sharper rubber is aged. The tires are not admissible to be stored in wet rooms, on fatty surfaces and under direct sunrays. According to the regulations, tires should be kept in an upright position to prevent the tyre deformation and assure easy handling with them. Should it be only possible to store the tires in a flat position, the passenger car wheels and radial tires of light-duty trucks should be kept stacked as high as one meter and radial tires of heavy-duty trucks – stacked up to one meter and a half.

The tires are stored in a clean and dirt- and moisture-free place. Dirt deposits may stop up nipples and moisture is stimulating oxidation and corrosion of steel cords resulting in reduced tyre stability and reliability. The tyre place of storage is flat. The items should not contact with oil-containing substances particularly oils, fuels and asphalt.

If you do not intend using your vehicle in winter conditions, it is not necessary to remove the tires and they can stay up. To proceed with it the automobile would be better to be lifted in order to eliminate the car weight pressure on wheels. In case that the car uplifting is impossible, then the tyre pressure should be made 25% higher than a standard one. Every three months the car should be wheeled out of the garage to avoid flattering of tyre. In general, tyre flattering disappears as soon as the tyre is warmed up and after you have approximately 40 km behind you.

You can try to create ideal environment for keeping the tires in your garage. But if such opportunity does not exist inasmuch as your garage is not rather spacious and clean, it would be optimal solution to give your tires to season custody. The cost of such servicing is not high and amounts 250 KZT a month per a tyre. Correct season custody of summer and winter tires is a guarantee of your road safety.
